Cognitive behavioural therapy

Empowering Minds, Transforming Lives

My Approach to Healing

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps you identify and change negative thought patterns, behaviours and feelings. At David Brennan Therapy, we provide a confidential and supportive environment where you can explore your unique challenges with a compassionate, supportive but also clinical perspective. My goal is to equip you with practical tools to manage stress, anxiety, depression or trauma related issues and to empower you to lead a more balanced and fulfilling life.

About me

Website image.jpg

Firstly, thank you for reaching out and looking at my page for potential support. My name is David Brennan, I specialize in evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for mental health issues including depression, anxiety disorders, stress related issues or adjustment and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and have clinical experience of working within NHS Talking Therapies and have additional training in working with individuals struggling with long-term health conditions.  My approach is rooted in evidence based practice yet is also deeply compassionate and designed to empower individuals to navigate life's complexities with resilience through guided discovery. I am dedicated to providing a confidential, supportive environment where you can transform your mental health journey into a path of lasting empowerment and longevity. I am accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), my membership number is 1008921 (babcp.com).

I have a deep passion for working within mental health and have seen first hand the positive impact that reaching out for support can have through my work in CBT. As with most people in life, I to have experienced challenges and adjustments  and feel these experiences have led me to the professional path I took in supporting and helping others. Reaching out for support can be hard enough and you can rest assured that I will treat all prospective clients with respect, empathy and adopt a strict non-judgmental approach.

I am a big believer that therapy should be collaborative in nature and I will always treat you as an expert from your own experiences, I see therapy as a joint venture in which we work on issues together as both therapist and client.

Once again, thank you for reaching out for support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical CBT session like?

CBT is a warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented process. We work together to understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected. Sessions are professional but compassionate, focusing on practical tools you can use immediately to manage your challenges.

How long do sessions last?

Standard therapy sessions last 50 minutes. This provides enough time to review your week, work through a specific challenge, and agree on practical strategies to try before our next meeting.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your needs and reviews will be conducted during your therapy to ensure you're getting the most from therapy. Typically, CBT is a short-term therapy, with many clients seeing significant progress within 6 to 20 sessions. We will regularly review our progress together.

What are your fees and payment methods?

Individual sessions are charged at £80. Payment is made via bank transfer (Stripe) prior to the session. If you have private health insurance, please mention this during our initial contact. Sessions operate on a no fee no session policy and pre-payment must be made with at least 24 notice before sessions.

Do you offer online or in-person sessions?

I currently only offer remote sessions via secure video platform on Microsoft Teams or via telephone. Online therapy has been proven just as effective as in-person therapy and offers greater flexibility for your schedule.

Is our therapy confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of our professional relationship. Everything we discuss is kept private, in line with BABCP ethical standards and GDPR regulations, with very rare exceptions regarding safety and wellbeing.

What is your cancellation policy?

I understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, please provide at least 24 hours' notice. This allows me to offer the time slot to another client. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged at the full session rate.

Do you work with children or young people?

Currently, I only offer CBT to adults aged 18 and over.
